Girth alone will not fit a harness

A pug and a whippet can measure the same girth and need entirely different objects. One is wide and shallow, the other narrow and deep. A harness has to be cut to the shape of the chest, not merely sized to its circumference, which is why almost every harness sold fits almost every dog badly.

Wide shallow chest on a short thick neck. The front sits low and wide to clear the throat, because a standard Y-front rides straight up into it.

Why a harness at all

A collar carries load, and load has to go somewhere

Everything we make is load-bearing. Where that load sits on a dog is the difference between a piece of equipment and a problem, and it is the reason we measure rather than guess.

None of this is a reason to be frightened of a collar. It is the reason to have one that fits.

A dog is three different shapes before it is two years old

A collar measured at eight weeks is wrong by twelve. Rather than sell you an adjustable compromise that fits none of the three, we cut a piece for each stage and measure the dog again each time.

Cotton webbing with bridle leather trim, cut generously with two full sizes of adjustment in the girth. It is meant to be outgrown, so it is priced to be.

Half grown, leggy, and deepening in the chest faster than the neck is thickening. Bridle leather now, with one size of adjustment left in it.

Cut to the measurement and no further. No spare strap, no surplus holes. This is the piece that gets repaired rather than replaced.

The Growing Years

All three harnesses, one payment, each cut to a fresh measurement as the dog reaches it. Book the fitting when you are ready and we take the tape again from scratch. If the dog outgrows a stage early, that is our problem rather than yours.
